In order to be a skilled dancer, it is essential to have great coordination. If you struggle with coordination, don’t worry! In this article, we will explore five exercises that can be a game changer for you. By practicing these exercises, you will gradually improve your dance coordination over time.
Before we dive into the exercises, I have an exciting announcement. I am offering a few spots for a free one-on-one consultation with me. This consultation will be a part of my Confidence Through Dance online program, which aims to help dancers improve their skills and boost their confidence. If you’re interested in signing up for a consultation, stay tuned until the end of this article for more details.
Now, let’s get started with the coordination exercises. It’s important to note that these exercises may not look amazing at first, but they are designed to challenge your brain and improve your coordination with practice.
- Healing Coordination Combination:
- Start with a simple warm-up exercise. Bend the opposite arm as you move the heel in, like this: one, two, one, two. Remember, this is just a warm-up and not the main exercise.
- In-Up Coordination Combination:
- Lift your foot up and then slowly bring it up. Repeat this with both feet, making sure to land on the beat. Once you have mastered the footwork, add the arms by crossing them open and closed on the snare.
- Tap-Tap Out Coordination Combination:
- Lift one heel, bring it down, then turn it out as a marker for the snare. Alternate between tapping and turning out the heels. Once you have the footwork down, add the arms by crossing them open and closed, similar to the previous exercise.
- Forward-Side Coordination Combination:
- Start by tapping your foot in front, keeping it close to your body. Then move it to the side. Repeat this sequence, making sure the foot goes out to the side on the snare. For the arms, extend your elbow out and then bring it back in, finishing with the arm in front of you.
- Challenging Coordination Combination:
- This is the most difficult combination. Start by tapping your foot in front, then bring it back to center. Repeat this sequence, tapping on the beat. As you tap, extend your elbow out and bring it back in, while keeping your arm in front of you.
Remember, these exercises require practice and patience. Coordination is essential in dancing, as it involves moving various body parts simultaneously. By practicing these exercises consistently, you will see a significant improvement in your dance coordination.
I hope you found these exercises helpful. If you tried them, let me know in the comments how many of the five combinations worked for you. I’ll personally congratulate you for your progress.
